In brief

  • Netflix France has three plans: Standard with ads (€7.99), Standard (€14.99) and Premium (€21.99) per month.
  • You can watch in English: the app interface, audio and subtitles are all multilingual — no French needed.
  • Your existing Netflix account works in France; billing simply follows your registered country and payment method.
  • Some French boxes bundle or discount Netflix — Free (Freebox Ultra), Orange (Livebox Max) and SFR (Premium box).

Can you watch Netflix in English in France?

Yes — Netflix is fully multilingual, so moving to France changes nothing about your language :

  • The app and website interface can be set to English in Account → Profile → Language.
  • Most titles offer English audio and English subtitles — set your preferred languages in the profile so they are selected automatically.
  • Your viewing history, profiles and watchlist stay the same when you travel or move; only the available catalogue follows the country you are in.

Netflix through a French internet box

Several French providers include or discount Netflix when you take one of their internet boxes — often cheaper than paying for both separately :

Provider Netflix deal
Free (Freebox Ultra)Netflix Standard with ads included; other Freeboxes need a paid subscription (from €7.99)
Orange (Livebox Max)€5/month off your Netflix subscription
SFR (Premium box)Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video included for 9 months (your choice)

Which Netflix plan should you choose?

The right plan depends on how you watch and how many people share the account :

  • Standard with ads (€7.99) — the cheapest way in. Full HD on two screens; you accept a few minutes of ads per hour and a slightly smaller catalogue, with no offline downloads.
  • Standard (€14.99) — ad-free Full HD on two screens, with downloads on two devices. The best all-round choice for a couple or a small household.
  • Premium (€21.99) — 4K Ultra HD with HDR on up to four screens and six download devices. Worth it for a 4K TV or a busy family; you can also add extra members at €4.99 each.

Sharing outside your household now needs a paid extra-member slot rather than simply passing on a password, so factor that in if you were used to splitting an account with family back home.

Using your existing account when you move to France

You do not need a new account when you arrive. Log in as usual and Netflix simply serves the French catalogue based on your location, while your profiles, watchlist and viewing history stay intact.

Billing continues in the country and with the payment method registered on the account until you change them. If you are settling in France long-term, it is worth switching to a French card so your pricing — and any box discount — line up correctly.

Forcing your home catalogue through a VPN breaches Netflix’s terms and is increasingly blocked, so it is not a reliable fix. The English audio and subtitle tracks on the French catalogue usually make it unnecessary anyway.
